Thompson Leads CODEL to South and Central America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, May 27, 2009

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, will lead a Congressional Delegation with other members of the House Committee on Homeland Security to the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Argentine Republic, Republic of Peru, and the Republic of Panama.

Chairman Thompson released the following statement in advance of the visit:

“This is a great opportunity for this Committee to view and assess first hand homeland security efforts in other countries including counterterrorism cooperation, canal and port security, human trafficking, border security, and infectious disease research. This further solidifies the message that homeland security does not begin or end at our borders, but rather our interests are inexplicably linked with that of our security partners and allies.”

Members attending the CODEL:
Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS)
Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA)
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX)
Rep. Christopher P. Carney (D-PA)
Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (D-NY)
