Statement from Chairman Thompson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Thursday, January 07, 2010

January 7, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement following President Obama’s announcement of the findings from the security review:

“It appears that the President’s review of our intelligence and security infrastructure is honest, transparent, and comprehensive. It is clear that many aspects of our Homeland Security infrastructure need to be reformed or reassessed – including the watchlisting process, the collection, analysis and management of intelligence, and the deployment of effective screening technologies. I look forward to working with the Administration to fix these problems and am pleased that the President recognizes the critical role the Department of Homeland Security must play in reforming the system. We can create a robust and secure system that ensures the safety of the flying without overly burdening travelers or sacrificing civil liberties.”
